We had an argument the other night... the four of us brothers.
We normally get along well. For brothers at least. But this one issue was enough to make us want to jump up and strangle each other. And it was something we had been arguing about over and over. Night after night. It often makes us wonder why we got into this in the first place. About two years ago we started playing music together. All of us had a bit of experience playing the piano. But that was all. No experience playing as a group. Still, how difficult could it be?
As we learned very quickly, playing music as a group is a lot harder than playing individually. And to make matters worse, most of us were playing on instruments that were new to us. We struggled a lot for the first few months. Fortunately we had a lot of encouragement from family and friends. But you tend to expect that kind of support. We didn't really think there would be that many other people interested in our music. But there's something unique about Celtic music. There's something about the variety that attracts all kinds of people. That's what happened last year, when
we played in Boyne City, a small town here in Michigan. That We played for three hours straight and had a small crowd the whole time. A crowd composed of grandparents, little kids, young families - just about everyone imaginable. It made us realize that there might be some potential for our music. Shortly after this we had an opportunity thrust upon us to record a CD. We really had no plans to do any recording, but when the opportunity presented itself, we figured we might as well take it.
After some hard work by our engineer and a second trip down to the studio to make sure everything was perfect, we had our first album, Eclectic Stew.
What Shall We Do with the Drunken Sailor? Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Of
course, that's just a taste of the music on this album. There are a total of
15 songs on the CD, making a bit over 45 minutes of music. You'll find a
real variety of music... reflecting the diversity that is such an integral
part of Celtic music.Unfortunately, this album will probably be the only one we create. As we get older, it's hard to know where our lives will go. But you never know. It wasn't until after much arm-twisting that we were persuaded to make this album. So who knows... But you'd better get your CD now. There are, obviously, a limited number of CD's we have available. Ordering is simple, just click the "Buy Now" button at the bottom of the page. And the price is a very reasonable 15 dollars.
This is more than just a CD. It's a musical collection - a stew, if you will - of many different cultures and musical styles.
P.S. At the top of this page we mentioned an argument we often have. That disagreement is over tiny little details in the way we play our songs. When you play instrumental music like this, it's tempting to simply play the melody... with very few embellishments. But we've been very careful to never do that. We do everything we can to make our music interesting. As you'll be sure to find out... |
